COVID-19 Q & A

What are the available COVID-19 tests?

Nie Lina MD PC dedicates itself to providing essential health care services for families. The office is seeing patients for routine care and sick visits, and COVID-19 testing is available. Dr. Nie offers COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests and antibody tests for kids.

COVID-19 PCR testing

COVID-19 PCR tests are accurate diagnostic tests to determine if your child is currently infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Dr. Nie takes a sample of cells from your child’s nose, and a lab screens the sample for signs of the viral infection. COVID-19 PCR test results are available in 1-2 days.

COVID-19 antibody testing

COVID-19 antibody tests are blood tests that check for COVID-19 antibodies in your immune system. If you get sick, your immune system creates special antibodies to fight off the virus, and these antibodies can stay in your blood for several weeks after you recover.

Should my child get a COVID-19 test?

COVID-19 symptoms vary widely from person to person. The latest research indicates that children are less likely to contract COVID-19 than adults, but they can spread the virus to others and get sick themselves.

Consider having your child tested for COVID-19 if they’ve been exposed to the virus or if they have symptoms like:

  • Fever
  • Runny nose or congestion
  • Cough or sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Headache, nausea, or vomiting
  • Abdominal pain or diarrhea
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Fatigue or body aches
  • Pink eye without discharge, cracking lips or strawberry tongue

Getting the viral test is the best way to confirm whether or not your child has COVID-19 infection.

What COVID-19 precautions is the office taking?

Dr. Nie takes health and safety seriously. All staff members wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Routine appointments, physical exams, and other well visits are separated from sick visits in the office to help prevent illnesses from spreading. The staff cleans all exam rooms meticulously after each visit, following the latest health and safety guidelines.

Telehealth appointments are available, and Dr. Nie recommends these virtual visits when appropriate to eliminate the need to go into the office. For in-person appointments, there’s no need to sit in a waiting room. You receive a text or call reminder when your exam room is ready.
